Step 1 - Maintain Proper Hygiene
It's believed that cleanliness is an important issue for women with recurrent yeast infections. Remember to always wash the outside genital area on a daily basis with a gentle soap and water. And unless instructed by your physician, douching with vaginal deodorants or perfumed bubble baths should be avoided as they might upset the vaginal balance.

Also, ensure that the outside vaginal area is thoroughly dried after a bath or shower, as a dry area is less likely to encourage yeast growth. And if you perspire a lot, some doctors recommend dusting with plain cornstarch to absorb the excess moisture.

Step 2 - Avoid Tight Fitting Clothing
Despite what fashion may dictate, tight fitting clothing is not a good idea if you want to prevent a yeast infection. Tight fitting clothes, wet bathing suits, nylon underwear and pantyhose can retain heat and moisture, which assist the growth of yeast.

Step 3 - Watch Your Diet
Some doctors have found that the intake of heavily sweetened foods can contribute to recurrent yeast infections. In fact, women have been found to develop yeast infections following an excessive sugar binge. Alternately, reducing the amount of sweetened foods may reduce the number of recurrent infections.

Women who are overweight appear to suffer from yeast infections more commonly. As such, a weight loss program may be particularly helpful.

Step 4 - Cut Down On Stress
Everyone suffers from stress. Unfortunately, stress has also been proven to contribute to yeast infections. So take a deep breath, go for a walk, meditate... whatever it takes to reduce your stress can help prevent future yeast infections.
